a bunch of sissies

Just read a great article on Yahoo about the bail out defeat.

“Asked to take a leap of faith regarding a dizzyingly complex problem, a critical mass of voters refused to trust their leaders, turning down the medicine that was offered. And so the politicians who are most exposed to popular whims have run for cover.”

Another paragraph adds additional statistical details…

“An analysis by statistician , who runs FiveThirtyEight.com, made this clear. Of the 38 incumbent from both parties who are considered vulnerable in the coming election, 30 voted against the bill (eight supported it). By contrast, members of Congress from relatively safe districts were evenly divided – 197 for it to 198 against it.”members of CongressNate Silver

Right now, I blame congress. They were the ones clamoring for easy credit and affordable housing. They even applied pressure that pulled FASB closer to the fold. The SEC watched, giggled and cheered everyone on.

Seems to me our leaders should serve the public interest. It appears the vulnerable members of Congress put their heads in the sand when their leadership was most needed. It is bad enough that there is so little trust between the people and our leaders. This crisis only demonstrates that how far out of alignment our political process has become. When we needed them most, when we needed them to do what they were elected to do, they ran.
